Mixing Textiles 101

Love velvet? Love leather? What about lace? Think you can’t wear all of these together? Well, let me tell you that you can, and you can totally rock it! I, like many other women, love to feel the unique sensation of different textiles against my skin. There are a few guidelines to keep in mind before we dive in.

First of all, stick with one color family and add a small amount of neutral. For example, utilizing a plum silk top, grape velvet brocade mini, and grey leather blazer. While sticking with one color family, try not to overdue the amount of textures. You definitely want to radiate an intention with the outfit, as opposed to being all over the board.

Another concept is to keep it by season, so the outfit makes visual sense. Pairing a floral tapestry woven maxi, navy velvet booties, and a deep burgundy angora oversized cardigan is perfect for late fall.

We don’t recommend taking these guidelines as steadfast rules, as you should feel comfortable to play and make it your own. We have also outlined below a few outfits that showcase the idea of mixing textures.
